UNISON Lifelong Learning whilst in isolation

At this current difficult time when members may be feeling isolated, UNISON members may be interested in taking part in some of the many online learning opportunities available.

UNISON and Open University Free Courses

UNISON and other partners have helped the Open University develop a suite of free online badged courses. These are aimed at people who wish to improve their skills, knowledge and career prospects in a number of specific areas. Topics include:

Introducing Practical Healthcare – introductory course for healthcare support staff who might be looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in order to improve their career progression within the health sector
Supporting Children’s Development – of particular interest to teaching assistants and other school staff
Caring for Adults – introductory course for carers or those considering a care role
Taking Part in the Voluntary Sector – introductory course for people considering volunteering or aiming to progress within the voluntary sector

Keeping your mind active may help you maintain focus and motivation in the days and weeks to come. The link below should direct you to online learning for these courses through UNISON and the Open University. open.edu/openlearn/spn-courses

If you decide to sign up for any of the courses Carol McGrath, joint Branch Lifelong Learning Coordinator, would appreciate if you could let her know so she can keep a log of who is doing which course. Carol’s email address is carol.mcgrath@leedsunison.org.uk

UNISON eNotes

UNISON has developed eNotes too. These are short, focussed, rapid e-learning modules that help keep reps up to date on major issues such as Roles of the ULR,  The development of eNotes has proved to be hugely successful and feedback from reps extremely positive. The success of the eNotes has provided stimulus for the unionlearn TOOL project too. Considering the fact that all training has been suspended along with gatherings of people in one place to reduce the risk pf spreading the COVID 19 virus it has been suggested that we promote the e-learning resources to enable learners to continue learning in some capacity.
